The Australian Maritime Museum’s rooftop is once again the canvas for a bold lightshow as part of Vivid Sydney 2016. Projected on the vast rooftop of the museum, The Nautilus and the Sea tells the story of Norbert the Nautilus and his search for a new home. All the characters and creatures from the film come to life as glittering giant lanterns in this environmental undersea fantasy played out by the harbour foreshore.
Fusion Entertainment Australia were tasked with lighting the area around the Museum including the classic ships moored there. Paul Walton, managing director of Fusion, immediately chose ShowPro HEX 18 LED Pars and ShowPro EX36 LED Floods, both of which are suitable for outdoor applications.
The north side of the building is completely lit by the EX36 Floods located on truss uprights tucked inside of a loading dock. At the entrance walk way there is a flown truss comprising of both ShowPro models.
Around the Lighthouse and The Endeavour there are more truss uprights holding both HEX 36’s and HEX 18’s. These lights, along with those at the north side, are on a 30 minute sequence which was programmed on a MA Lighting International command wing and stored onto an ELC Showstore.
“It goes through a few colour fades and variations keeping within a maritime theme,” said Paul. “The reason they wanted the northern side lit up is that there is a lot of foot traffic from the ferry terminal. That’s also why we used some Wireless DMX as we couldn’t run cable across the main thorough fare. It was just a short link but an important one for safety.”
Paul has been very impressed by the performance of the ShowPro HEX 18 LED Pars and ShowPro EX36 LED Floods.
“For an IP65 rated LED fixture, they are extremely bright and basically just work,” he commented. “They’re very solid units that also draw a minimal amount of power.”
