Sound Workshop was established in 1984, making it the oldest audio visual company in the ACT. It has recently expanded into lighting and rigging services, installations and crew hire.
“We needed a complete package including console, cabling and LED fixtures,” commented Wayne Bateup, Sound Workshop’s Rigger/ Head of Lighting. “Show Technology’s Evan Lyle put together a package that suited all our needs.
“We chose an MA Lighting International dot2 core because of its simplicity. The console is user-friendly and for us it was the perfect choice as a first lighting console.”
Wayne further remarked that the dot2 core’s effects engine is really easy to use, networking is simple and the powerful console has a small footprint so it’s great for small venues but powerful enough to do large rock and corporate gigs.
“Furthermore, anyone can be trained to use it in a very short time, so it’s perfect for dry-hire,” he added.
At the same time as ordering the dot2 core, Sound Workshop added thirty-two ShowPro Fusion H XII IP LED pars to their inventory. Having a silent LED fixture was very important for their corporate work, but they also needed a versatile IP rated LED fixture that could do site and architectural lighting.
“The wireless DMX on-board made the decision to purchase Fusion H XII very easy,” said Wayne. “Other features included a colour temperature channel which makes white balancing simple, a very strong heavy-duty body and an adjustable frequency for broadcast applications which is a large part of our work.”
