The NW Group has invested in eight Claypaky Scenius Unico, a spotlight renowned for its quality of light.
The Scenius Unico has six rotating gobos, a rotating prism, a beautiful animation wheel, and it is equipped with the most sophisticated and most precise framing system on the market today. The Scenius Unico is also an excellent wash light, since it features a system with different diffusion filters, which may be inserted gradually. However the most amazing feature is that the Scenius Unico can also generate a powerful narrow beam of super concentrated light, with a minimum beam angle of only 5 degrees.
“We have had an increase in demand from our clients for framing fixtures over the past twelve months,” remarked Stuart Gregg, National Operations Director at NW Group. “So we got together our Sydney LX team and did an evaluation on the incandescent and LED versions of several fixtures. We looked at the Claypaky Scenius, Martin MAC Viper and High End SolaSpot Frame 2000. The running cost of the incandescent vs the LED was not significant in the long run and the LED fixtures, whilst getting better by the day, still did not match the incandescent. In discussion with a number of LDs we work with regularly, the Scenius was the fixture of choice.”
NW Group’s lighting team has been very impressed by the Scenius Unico ability to perform the role of multiple types of fixture, without compromising on colour, output, mechanical precision or effects.
“Since arriving at the NW Group, the Scenius Unico has done nothing but impress our clients and wow our techs,” added James Harling, Senior Systems Tech, NW Group. “With its 1400 watt lamp, 6.5k colour temp and smooth framing module, slick linear zoom ranging from 5-degrees to 55-degrees – this fixture is beyond intelligent.
“As a Systems Tech I’ve had the pleasure to use this fixture on the CMC awards and the Sales Force Global Conference this year, and in both cases the fixture has done exactly what is purpose was. From providing a smooth yet seamless blend on a 30m wide curved banner from a 4m throw, to showing up as the new industry work horse fixture, providing not only a framing fixture but also a beam light, wash and spot. This light is the most perfect multipurpose light on the market.
“This been said, you’d think a fixture with all these capabilities would lack in one area but the Scenius Unico continues to perform considerably well in all areas.”
Sindy Crow, Head Lighting Technician at NW Group Sydney, totally agrees with James saying that the Scenius Unicos have had constant work since they arrived and haven’t missed a beat.
“We chose the Scenius Unico as our preferred framing fixture for our extensive corporate work,” Sindy said. “The rich colour mixing and artistic gobos add that extra dimension to what we can achieve. The smooth framing module combined with the Unico’s ability to focus sharply on all four blades across the entire zoom range was the best we had seen. The variable frost also allows the Unico to act as an excellent wash fixture with very good coverage.”
In fact NW Group has been so impressed by their Scenius Unicos, they have plans to order more.
