Earlier in the year the dimmer in Sydney’s Redlands Senior School hall decided to give up the ghost. Instead of replacing it, the sensible option of completely replacing their ageing Par64 rig was chosen.
The hall is primarily used for assemblies and official functions but is also occasionally used for small performance evenings so fixtures that were versatile and quiet were required.
“We tested a large array of fixtures and ended up choosing the ShowPro RGBAL Zoom Fresnels because of their vast depth of colours and nice, even light field,” commented Janis Auzins, Audio Visual Coordinator at Redlands. “To supplement these we purchased two Claypaky Axcor 300 Spots and I was incredibly impressed by the quality of the optics and how quiet the fixture was.”
The Axcor Spot 300 has 17 gobos on 2 wheels, including 7 high quality dichroic rotating gobos. Weighing just 20 Kg and measuring a little over 500 mm, this unit incorporates features that are not often found in models of this size, like a rotating prism, a motorised iris, a soft edge filter, a 16-bit dimmer, and a 8-40° zoom.
Janis reports that everyone has been very impressed with the Claypaky fixtures and they have plans to add another six Axcor Spots and six Washes early next year.
