Victoria’s Donvale Christian College recently completed a new three-story Community Hub featuring a multipurpose hall with a stage and retractable seating, classrooms, a sports hall and amenities. Insight Systems has had a long relationship with the school and were asked to support them in the design and supply of a stage lighting, projection, sound and control solution.
The stage is serviced by a FOH lighting bar with three more lighting bars above the stage and Insight Systems turned to Show Technology to supply a mixture of Profiles, Fresnels, Pars and Cyc lights.
The FOH bar holds eight ShowPRO LED Profile FC with zoom lenses and a couple of ShowPRO LED Fresnel RGBAL DMX Zoom, the next two bars have more Fresnels and twelve ShowPRO LED FusionPAR H XII as backlight whilst the rear bar has Fresnels and seven ShowPRO LED CYC2 RGBAL.
The brief was to keep it simple. Control needed to be suited to a novice and seasoned operator. An LSC Nexus is used as a priority switch to take the signal from the ELC DMX Scene Player which is controlled by a Crestron touchscreen. When the lighting console is plugged in, it takes control until it is turned off.
“It means that an untrained user can easily choose one of nine lighting presets on the Crestron touchscreen without having to know anything about lighting,” explained Peter Gray from Insight Systems. “Then when someone turns on the console, it automatically takes over without having to patch anything or unplug anything. It just works thanks to the clever use of technology.”
When asked about the range of Show Technology products used in this project, Peter requested that this story did not concentrate on our products, but rather on how important the relationship with a quality supplier is.
“It’s all good quality product that does what it says it will and is certainly excellent value for money,” he added. “But more important is the service level you get from Show Technology, time after time, it can’t be beaten. I’ve had plenty of people wanting to sell me LED this and LED that, and they all say theirs is quicker, brighter and cheaper, but to be honest, that’s not where the value is. It’s all about that whole company relationship. Whilst Branden is our Account Manager, we also get great support from Keith, Marty, Paul and even EZ when he’s in town.”
