St Catherine’s Waverley, a private Anglican day and boarding school for girls located in Sydney, recently opened a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Auditorium to enhance the school’s existing performing arts curriculum by providing a facility that integrates the operational mechanics of modern-day theatre with a world-class performance venue. The design includes an orchestra pit for approximately 30 and guest seating for more than 500 and has a stage that is 10m deep with 5m wide wings.
Theatre design consultants Marshall Day Entertech decided on a Show Technology lighting rig as the only way to go and this was supplied and installed by Xcite AV.
The rig consists of ten Martin ELP CL plus 36deg Lens, ten ShowPRO E-Profile FC, ten ShowPRO LED Fresnel W/W 15-60 Degree plus Barndoors, ten ShowPRO LED CYC2 RGBAL and sixteen ShowPRO LED HEX PAR 12 RGBAW+UV.
“Showtech always provide a good service and we have a good relationship with them,” commented Micah Johnson, Entertech’s Design Leader. “Their products are ideal for this type of project and as they are cost-effective, we can get more fixtures for our budget … but still fixtures we can rely on.
The Martin ELP CL was chosen for its superior output, optics and colour rendering combined with unparalleled ease of use and convenience. The LED Ellipsoid fixtures allow the stage to be covered with a strong wash when needed or to cut in around the edges and have sharp lines around the edge of the proscenium.
“When we tested the colour and output, these fixtures held their ground against more expensive lights,” said Micah. “We have the E-Profile FC as our main profile light. They project excellent gobos and have a good flat field projection. The ShowPRO LED Fresnels, in white, are almost silent in operation which makes them great for dance and theatre performances.”
The Quad RGBAL LED engines, coupled with dual tilting heads of the ShowPRO LED CYC2 RGBAL, provide the user ample control to create a uniform light output with stunning colour reproduction. Robust chassis and well-positioned connectors allow for neat and efficient cable management.
The Hex PAR 12 is a rugged LED wash light that features four selectable dimming curves, high-frequency LED modulation for flicker-free video playback and an infrared sensor for optional IR6 remote control.
“The Hex PARs are simple to use, fit the budget and requirements and are versatile,” added Micah.
