Tasmanian production supplier VJAM has upped the ante with the purchase of 32 x Ayrton Mistrals and 16 x Claypaky AXCOR Beam 300!

Eight of the Ayrton Mistrals were immediately installed in Hobart’s Odeon Theatre replacing the previous fixtures in an attempt to reduce the rigged weight in the venue.

“The venue was almost at capacity so by switching to the Mistrals we halved the weight of the lighting rig which was great,” remarked Matt Neil, VJAM’s Account Manager. “Also power consumption between the old fixtures and the Mistral is a big difference.”

Matt comments that he has had great feedback from the touring engineers that have been going through the Odeon.

The remaining Mistrals went into VJAM’s production inventory where they have been busy with just about any type of gig that comes along.

“They are very versatile doing rock’n’roll, corporate, public events – there are not many events where these aren’t a good fit!” said Matt. “A lot of our corporate work is in venues with severe weight limits so they’re great for those jobs to do room breakup or spot duty or pretty much anything in between.”

Matt says that the Mistral’s zoom range has been a useful feature as they can be used for a very tight spot out to almost a full wash.

“Often on corporate gigs we’ll have a low truss height so having a wide zoom range helps in that scenario,” added Matt. “Their output is very impressive, especially for such a lightweight fixture and they certainly can keep up with the big lamp fixtures. Their versatility and feature set has been perfect for us. I know I can put them on almost any gig and achieve a great result.”

VJAM didn’t have a dedicated beam fixture in their inventory so they searched the market for the ideal product to cater to their needs. The Claypaky AXCOR Beam 300 was the winner ticking the correct balance between being cost-effective but with decent output and lightweight. The AXCOR Beam 300 is a moving LED fixture with an extremely compact body that produces high light output with a solid 2º beam. Its 14-colour wheel and 17 gobos make it the perfect fixture for any type of live event.

“Claypaky products are famous for their performance and quality,” said Matt. “The AXCOR Beam 300 keeps maintenance down, but, like the Mistral, it is also lightweight. With its speed and output, the AXCOR Beam 300s delivers the strong beams needed to stand out and cut through everything else.

“The quality of their effects, their practical built-in features, and their high light output make the AXCOR Beam 300 a solid choice plus their colours are very vivid.”
