The team at Clear Systems in Melbourne were looking out for a special front-of-house fixture with excellent framing when they got wind of the Ayrton Rivale’s release.
“We do a lot of theatre work and needed a good framing system but the Ayrton Eurus was too big for our needs,” explained Daniel Bowen from Clear System’s Hire Department. “Framing has become very popular for theatre works and the Rivale offers the full feature set without the size of an arena scale fixture. Brandon at Show Technology gave us a few hints of what was coming from Ayrton and we were excited.”
Daniel says that the team were keen to stay with the Ayrton brand as they have owned Mistrals for six years and they’ve been rock-solid.
As well as complementing the Mistrals, the Rivale hasn’t lost any features in order to make it small.
“We looked at other fixtures in the smaller range with framing but they always came at the cost of the second gobo wheel or something else,” commented Daniel. “They would always take something out to fit the framing in, whereas this one has the two gobo wheels, the animation wheel, the colour wheel, the CMY … everything that we wanted with the framing.”
Whilst purchased primarily for indoor theatre work, Daniel remarks that it’s handy to have a bright, high-output fixture that they can use for festivals on the weekends.
“Then we can use the framing functionality feature set in a theatre during the next week,” he said. “So the IP-rated is definitely a big plus. I don’t think we’ve bought a non-IP-rated fixture in the last year. Everything has just been IP-rated these days.”
Daniel adds that he was impressed by the Rivale’s massive lens describing it as awesome. It means that the Rivale looks like a bigger fixture than what it is.
The weight of the Rivale was also welcomed at Clear Systems as it does many smaller shows and a high output fixture that isn’t overly heavy is perfect for smaller venues that do not have a large roof capacity.
Word of Clear System’s Rivales is getting out and they are booked for many future shows and events.
