Setting a new standard for compact moving heads, MAC One is a revolutionary Beam, Wash and Eye-Candy fixture featuring a captivating Fresnel lens that transforms any stage or event into an extraordinary visual spectacle. Compact, lightweight, and highly versatile, MAC One defines a new compact class of performance lighting.
When Darren Russell, Managing Director & Owner of Elite Event Technology, first saw the Martin MAC One at Prolight & Sound last year, he knew he had to have some. He ordered 32 small but mighty MAC One show-stoppers upon returning to Australia.
“I had a meeting on the Martin stand with the Show Technology crew, and the MAC Ones kept distracting me!” said Darren. “They had them hanging in circle trusses, and one was sitting on a plinth on the stand, and I went, oh, what’s this? I didn’t know anything about them, but after a good play with one, I said, let’s talk about these things!”
Darren adds that upon seeing many MAC Ones performing on the stand, he was amazed by the quality of their colours and their eye-candy effect with the lens system, saying it is most impressive for such a small fixture.
When Darren received their MAC Ones, they hung them on a prep truss in the warehouse, patched in a console, and the lighting guys were told to have a play with them.
“A couple of those guys had not been Martin lighting users very much, and they were like, these things are cool,” commented Darren. “We can use them as a small wash light in a small hotel ballroom, for rock and roll, or they can be eye candy effects.”
Darren and his crew were particularly impressed by the rigging hardware options, as they could use the fixtures in many ways. The Martin fourbar and matrix accessories can be used to extend its design potential further and ease large-quantity deployment. Additionally, the MAC One can utilise the VDO Grid Mount System, which enables them to be deployed in matrices and creative layouts with minimal effort. Based on the toolless VDO Coupler, designs can be deployed without requiring custom supporting structures.
“All that stuff is just really clever and means that we can use them in so many different ways,” said Darren. “I’ve had comments from one of our older lighting guys, a real old rock and roll guy who still loves the PAR can, that when we put the MAC Ones on a fourbar, zoom them in, and because of the colour and lens, you can make them look like a row of ACLs or Ray Cans. They’re just a real quality little fixture.”
The MAC One can have an excellent eye candy effect, getting all the attention; however, it can also be small and discreet when required. Darren says they have used them at several corporate events as camera stage wash, demonstrating how good the colour mixing is.
With its innovative combination of features in an incredibly compact and low-weight form-factor, the MAC One is pefect for the coporate environment. For the Australian Export of the Year Awards, pictured, the MAC Ones were on vertical pipes at the back of the stage, from where they could showcase refined eye candy effects with warm amber colour pointing straight at the audience.
Moving on from a subtle corporate look, the other photos show the Promiseland Festival, where all the MAC Ones are doing a big rock and roll look from the side of the screen. Its narrow, high-intensity beam packs the same punch as larger, heavier fixtures, enabling robust and vibrant aerial effects.
Darren adds that the support from Show Technology has been excellent and hopes to purchase another 32 MAC Ones soon.
