When New Zealand’s MJF Lighting decided to replace their aging discharge fittings, they began searching for the best followspot on the market to suit their specific requirements.
“We needed a small yet bright and versatile LED followspot mainly for medium to large size theatres,” explained Michael Farrand, Managing Director. “We also needed a small unit to use as a truss spot or a truss chair spot. Importantly, it also needed to be quiet.”
Enter Robert Juliat’s Oz followspot with its compact dimension, silent operation, smooth electronic dimming and the benefits of no lamp change and powerful output.
“They’re so quiet yet bright enough to do the large venues,” added Michael. “They can happily be in an auditorium close to the audience because of their quiet operating nature. The key thing from the operator’s point of view is that they’re a very cool unit to operate with no heat coming out of them that the older units used to have. It’s a more pleasant experience for the followspot operators who deal with them for a prolonged period.
Michael discovered that the Oz followspots fit perfectly onto a truss chair so they could be used for close-up work, which happened in New Zealand’s infamous World of Wearable Art production held at Wellington’s TSB Arena.
With many obstructions, due to the amazing creativity of the show, truss follow spots were the way to go, and the Oz followspots did not disappoint. From their position in the truss, the four Oz followspots were able to get clear access to the stage and performed brilliantly.
