Resolution X has added a fleet of Ayrton Perseo Profiles to their inventory. Perseo Profile is the first compact multi-function luminaire with an IP65 enclosure rating developed by Ayrton that is ideal for intensive outdoor use.

Res X’s Perseo Profiles have already done a few gigs including illuminating and projecting onto The Alfred Hospital for their 150th anniversary, the Royal Children’s Hospital for Christmas, Moonee Valley Bites and Lights and, more recently, lighting up a number of venues for National Corrections Day.

“We own many ShowPRO Neptune Hybrids, that perform very well, but we wanted a waterproof, full Profile for outdoors,” explained Tim Hall, Managing Director of Resolution X. “We already had several outdoor projects lined up where we were required to project onto buildings however, the Perseo Profiles are also great for outdoor stages where they’re perfect on the front truss.”

As soon as the guys at Res X received their Perseo Profiles they did a shootout with many of their leading brand moving lights and were surprised to discover that the Perseo Profile was the brightest. Equipped with a 500 W ultra-compact monochromatic LED source calibrated at 8000 K, it can deliver metallic white light with an output of 27,400 lumens.

“The optics were as good, if not better, so they’ll be suitable for indoor events too,” added Tim. “In fact, we see it as a light that can pretty much do anything not just outside gigs. The engineering from Ayrton keeps improving from product to product. The internal quality and engineering of being able to change gobos very easily were all factors in purchasing the Perseo Profiles.”

This was an important factor for Res X as much of their building projection work entails the use of custom gobos that they need to be able to switch reliably and easily. The most recent project of this type was the lighting of the Melbourne Assessment Prison, The Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and the Metropolitan Remand Centre in a tribute to the frontline prison staff as part of National Corrections Day. Gobos for this event were supplied by Gobotech.

“It was quite a complex projection but the minute it was turned on everyone was blown away by the quality of the optics,” commented Tim. “I wasn’t on site but the guys texted a photo to me saying ‘have a look at this!’! From a quality of projection point of view, the Perseo Profile is quite exceptional.”

Ayrton has specifically developed the optics in Perseo Profile to achieve an optimal resolution-to-performance-to-efficiency ratio. They allow perfect image reproduction and a significant improvement from distortion caused by the shutter blades with a wide zoom. The optics produce a highly uniform flat beam with no hot spot, achieving a perfect colour mix regardless of the colour combination selected. Fitted with a 148 mm frontal lens, this proprietary system has 13 lenses, delivering an 8:1 zoom ratio and a zoom range of 7° to 58°.

“The Perseo Profile is compact but packed with great features,” said Tim. “As well as being reliable, they have heaps of gobos, the shutter system is useful, great output and an amazingly flat field with no hotspot.

“Future work includes more building projections – keep an eye out as you never know where they will pop up. We also have bookings for some music festivals as they start to return.”
