Channel 9’s Sports Studio is on a winning streak with the addition of fourteen Martin MAC One fixtures elevating the set to a number one position.
“The opportunity arose for us to get a bit of extra kit and I wanted something that would give us a bit of variety as in colour, movement, and beam,” explained Andrew Veitch, Studio Supervisor at Nine Network Australia. “I decided to go for the MAC Ones as they are cost-effective, small and light plus they’re powerful for what they do.”
Andrew first saw the MAC One at Prolight + Sound in Germany last year and he was incredibly impressed saying they were a no-brainer and just the sort of lamp you need for a studio.
In the Sports Studio, the MAC Ones are integrated into the set design as the scale of the light suits the scale of the set.
“If you had a light that was twice the size of that, as many are, it would simply look stupid sitting in the set the way it is,” said Andrew. “The MAC Ones look really nice especially as the lamp itself is very beautiful to look at. Many moving lights are quite ugly but not the MAC One.”
Andrew comments that Martin has done a great job with all the little pixels incorporated into the MAC One. As Channel 9 has recently upgraded the software on their MA consoles they are looking at doing a lot more pixel mapping on MAC Ones.
“The MAC One is a perfect little beam light for a light that’s only 4 kilos in weight, it does a hell of a lot and there’s so much variety you can do with that light,” remarked Andrew. “I just think it’s a great little light for what it is and price-wise bang for buck, bloody great.”
In July, Andrew flies to Paris to set up Channel 9’s sports set at the Olympics and he is thrilled to have 28 MAC Ones joining him on set. As set-up details are still coming in Andrew is relieved to have the adaptability of the MAC One on hand.
