Since changing management, Launceston’s The Royal Oak Hotel has been refurbished, including the ‘Oak Shed’ Band Room. The hotel has cemented itself as the town’s premium music venue, hosting various local and touring acts.
The stage is relatively small; however, the owners were keen to get some big lighting looks, so Simon Widdowson, Director of Launceston production company Sound House, put his thinking cap on. He needed a very compact, high-powered fixture that would suit a venue with a low ceiling.
“We didn’t have a lot of height in the roof, so we needed a fixture that could still give us enough throw and width for a full impact show,” said Simon.
Enter the Claypaky Mini-B Spot! This compact, lightweight moving head spotlight with a surprising punch was the ideal fixture for the job. Despite its small size, it delivers a powerful and versatile performance and comes with the trusted Claypaky name.
“The Claypaky Mini-B Spot has a lot of zoom on it, which allows us to get a good width of lighting projection,” added Simon. “We did a lot of research, then Keith from Show Technology recommended the fixture, and we purchased three. They have been installed in the venue for six months, and the client is thrilled with them. They may deliver a high-powered effect but have a meagre power consumption. We will probably add some more in the future.”
Simon further remarks that the Claypaky Mini-B Spot has great interchangeable gobos and emits minimum noise.
