To say that Perth’s Lux Events is busy is a massive understatement! All departments, Lux Events (Corporate), Lux Labs (Experiential) and Lux Live (Concerts & Festivals) are growing rapidly. The Concert and Corporate Productions acquisition in 2022 has been a very rewarding addition to the business.
Lux Live supplies design, technology, programming, operation, and installation services to concerts and festivals touring Perth and Western Australia. It boasts an extensive inventory of lighting and LED screen technology in Perth, and so the recent addition of not one but two MA Lighting grandMA3 full-size, plus a grandMA3 Processing Unit M, to its inventory was almost a given!
As soon as the new consoles arrived, we dispatched them onto shows,” said Frans Jansen, Technical Director and Production Designer at Lux. “I think they spent about 24 hours in the warehouse, and when they’re not out on gigs, they’re rolled straight back into our new pre-viz studio to get a head start on our next show.”
Frans adds that the company had been relying heavily on its MA2 consoles, but he noticed a bit of a shift last year.
“Before that, people specified in MA3 but still ran MA2 mode, and now that shift to mode 3 has definitely happened,” he said. “With MA3 consoles the world standard, lighting designers and operators can travel the world knowing they will face the same console. They want consistency.”
Lux also purchased three LumiNode 12 ethernet/DMX processors, a future-proof investment that scales with the ever-growing need for more network-connected data.
Lux has been using ELC network processing devices for many years, and Frans remarks that the equipment is always very reliable. However, he noticed that Luminex had become a world standard, especially with touring shows.
“Many tours ask to have a network running on Luminex, and they won’t accept anything else,” he said. “We needed to upgrade and buy more nodes anyway, so we decided to jump on this, and they’ve been fantastic. I love them. They’re the primary nodes, and we still have a range of reliable ELC nodes.”
Lux Events has always had a close relationship with Show Technology, and Frans remarks that Gino and the team in WA look after them very well.
“It’s great,” he adds. “We always feel supported by them.”
