Australian DJ duo Flight Facilities have been back on the road this month as part of the Groovin the Moo Tour, and production design firm Colourblind was once again engaged to come up with the stage concept. Together with Sam Whiteside, they designed a curved wall of LED strips. But it needed to be lightweight and easy to transport – something that could easily be added to a festival stage for a special point of difference.
Fortunately lighting designer Matt Smith had used Martin Professional Sceptron in the past with Vera Blue and saw this tour as the ideal opportunity to use it again. Consequently Colourblind purchased 40 x Sceptron VDO10 1m, a Powerport 1500, and a P3 PC Dongle for the job.
“I particularly like the integration that P3 has with Hippotizer, our media server of choice,” commented Matt. “The P3 software is fairly intuitive and the setup of the Sceptron is fast.”
Standby Go were commissioned by Flight Facilities to make custom frames for touring. They can be travelled as eight frames of five Sceptron, where the tour allows, or for fly dates completely pack down in to five cases weighing under 30kg each.
